Where it all started!
I met Kendra and Mike right before our couples session at the Bonneville Salt Flats in between rain. I was in Utah visiting Zion National Park for The Heart University in-person workshop. This was a bucket list location of mine. A few other photographers and myself planned to photograph one couples session and one engagement session at this gorgeous place.
Rain or shine?
We were so freaking stoked to photograph the perfect white salt and all of its designs from the wind. WHOMP WHOMP — IT RAINED. So basically the salt turned into a muddy & mucky vast flat. All of us had our shoes crusted and encased in salt once dried. The salt wasn’t white, pure, & gorgeous but instead brownish, thick, and messy.
We all were so bummed that it wasn’t sunny or dry. BUTTTT, it was awesome to use reflections and get this pinky hue from a storm in the distance. We were SURE this storm would roll over the top of us and ruin the 2 hours of shooting. NOPE. It thankfully rained across the horizon and we watched the rainfall with the mountains and hills behind it.
Kendra and Mike were super chill and somber and photographing them on the flats just all meshed together in the aesthetic and feel of the whole shoot. Mike was originally supposed to roll up on his motorcycle but it broke down and Kendra picked him up on the way — WHEW!
Kendra and I are Instagram friends now and I’m obsessed with her art and style so PLEASE check her and her work out at https://kendravicken.com/. Her videos are incredible and how she sees the world is so unique.
I can’t wait to be back here and shoot another couples session at the Salt Flats and maybe this time when it’s dry and sunny!
Badass babes in a badass location.
